Network Controller Operator (Intermediate)NETWORK CONTROLLER/OPERATOR INTERMEDIATE:
* Serves as technical specialist responsible for the monitoring, operating and managing, troubleshooting and restoring to service any of the components comprising the DISN or DRSN networks. * These include data/voice communications equipment, multiplexers (such as modems, circuit switching units, data switching units, secure telephone switches and PBXâ?Ts), data terminal equipment, (such as front-end processors, routers, 3270/SNA devices) and transmission media (such as coaxial and twisted pair cables, satellite, microwave, and fiber optics both vendor-provided and government owned). * Performs pro-active monitoring of network elements alarms and alerts to identify those components/elements that may lead to or already are causing network degradation or failure. * Accomplishes this through use of network management system(s) and associated assets on a continuous (rotating shifts) basis. * Performs fault isolation and diagnostic/assessment functions to include determination and execution of corrective action(s) on real-time basis. * Interfaces with functional users as well as remote operations centers in both routine and reactive monitoring situations. * Maintains logs and records associated with reported problems or situations. * Executes all reporting functions and data input associated with network management. * Monitors security posture of network(s); reports suspected violations to designated authority. * Coordinates with configuration management and implementation entities to ensure optimum dissemination of information and network efficiency. * Performs operator level maintenance on all components/assets associated with network management systems. * Provides functional guidance, supervision, technical support, training and quality assurance/quality control to Associate personnel.
Required Skills: * DISA GNSC experience * Alarm Surveillance/Reporting â?" Proactively monitor network events and element failures in real-time on a 24x7 basis. Support other Government entities e.g. other Network Operations Centers (NOCs), Communications Facilities (Technical Control Facility (TCF), Directorates of Information Management (DOIMs), Network Operations Support Centers (NOSCs)) by providing global situational awareness support. Utilize GSM-OSS tools to immediately notify Government representatives of identified incidents (including Net Assurance incidents) so that timely situational awareness can be provided to DISA leadership and the impacted NetOps Community. * Incident//Fault Analysis â?" Analyze detected alarms, provide detailed analysis leading to resolution of the alarm conditioning, including filtering and correlating the fault information, identifying the fault condition and its impacts, isolating root causes, and coordinating correction of fault situations regardless of whether or not the fault is in the infrastructure under GSM-O control. * Fault Isolation â?" Support the fault isolation process. This includes the diagnoses and troubleshooting procedures to isolate where the fault occurs, and to identify the failed network element(s) i.e. systems, hardware, software, circuits, or facilities. Activities include: testing, fault troubleshooting, fault localization, fault logging and assignment, fault escalation, customer coordination and communications, and ticket system updates and status reporting. Note: fault analysis and isolation shall extend to customer/contractor or third-party provider equipment which is located within a DISA-provided GIG services site and/or attached to DISN capabilities, to enable the customer or provider who is responsible for the equipment to restore it to proper service.
