Business Insurance Underwriting Professional Development Program

The Travelers Business Insurance Underwriting Professional Development Program (UPDP) is a highly structured training program that provides you with the foundation for a strong underwriting future. __________________________________________________________________________________________
Underwriters are the heart of the insurance process, using finely tuned analytical skills to evaluate the acceptability of business and institutional risk. However, underwriters are more than just analysts - they are the relationship builders with our agents and clients. They are responsible for managing a profitable portfolio of business through our distributing agents and brokers. An underwriting career includes a dynamic blend of analytical and selling skills - it-s stimulating, exciting and a great career for the right individual.
The UPDP is designed to develop skills in insurance underwriting, sales, marketing and product knowledge through a structured program coupled with training and mentoring. This is a year-long multi-faceted program that gives participants the business and technical skills they need to understand the core of our business and to launch their carrer as successful Travelers underwriter.
This year long development program is a combination of training in the local field office(under the guidance of a manager and a mentor/coach) and classroom-based technical and sales training sessions at Travelers- headquarters in Hartford, Conn. and Saint Paul, Minn.
The field office on the job training includes an online curriculum, hands-on account work, agency visits and networking opportunities. The classroom technical and sales training sessions are taught by coverage and subject matter experts and include interactive learning activities. While at the home offices, participants will also have meetings with Travelers- senior management, tours of the risk control laboratory and claim facilities and network with other Underwriting Professional Development Program Participants from around the country
Requirements/Qualifications
- Undergraduate degree - 3.0 GPA or greater preferred - Effective communication skills - written, verbal and presentation abilities - Analytical skills - Marketing and Sales oriented - Able to work independently and in a team environment - Willing to travel to Hartford, Conn. and Saint Paul, Minn. for training - Current/valid driver-s license - Legally authorized to work in the United States
