Summary:
Reports to Assistant Operations Manager, Residual Markets Division. Accountable for providing total account management (i.e., independently managing assigned book of business) through: Effective consultation and negotiation with Travelers management, NCCI, customers, producers/brokers and internal support group; Oversee support for assigned book (i.e., oversight of process and record-keeping tasks, policy issue and assembly, etc.); and act as coach and mentor to less seasoned staff members (i.e., work planning, determining best approach to meet business objectives, etc.). Support overall RMD profit, expense management, and strategic goals. Provide team with leadership and support in absence of Assistant Operations Manager.

At this level of the career path, the incumbent is expected to perform the majority of the functions of the job; however, the incumbent would not be expected to act as the team functional/technical; resource and would be expected to seek guidance on the more complex assignments.

Primary Duties:
Independently manage an assigned book of business including specialty coverage and complex accounts. Evaluate policy information and maximize premium through sound review and analysis of all relevant information (i.e., claim histories, loss control/premium audit information, etc.).

Make sound underwriting/pricing decisions related to what we can and cannot do to achieve profit and expense management objectives. Conduct research as necessary to assure all relevant information is correct, credible and appropriate to the account. Work with Underwriting Manager to establish underwriting and claims protocols and philosophies within the team.

Interpret and apply 'best practice' guidelines/rules, making appropriate decisions outside of these guidelines as necessary. Minimize potential financial losses by executing appropriate pricing and underwriting decisions. Prepare account for J.U.R. review/evaluation as necessary

Determine when to deviate from standard process and systems in order to achieve profit and expense goals. Independentlyresolve problems that have potential to negatively affect these goals. Present conclusions directly to producer/broker/customer.

Represent Travelers as necessary to state regulatory agencies, producers, brokers and customers. Interpret and meet established compliance standards.

Through direct customer contact, maximize account satisfaction by effectively evaluating the business, investigating solutions to potential problems, and consulting with all levels within and outside of the organization. Manage problems through negotiation of related matters, etc.

Manage the collection/accounting activities of an assigned book of business by analyzing the financial condition, developing and implementing strategies to collect overdue monies and authorizing premium adjustments as necessary.

Act as coach and mentor to less seasoned Account Manager Underwriters. Provide formal and on-the-job training to increase their skill level and knowledge

Oversee the renewal and new business process (i.e., quotes, policy assembly, cancellations, reinstatements, changes, etc.) by providing guidance and direction to Account Assistants and less seasoned Account Manager Underwriters.

Participate in and/or direct special projects designed to improve Travelers market position in the Residual Market

May respond to interrogatories, depositions and other legal queries regarding the underwriting of the book of business.
